MMR and risk
The MMR vaccine has been linked to some serious illnesses. What are the risks to my child if I go ahead with MMR immunisation?
Mumps meningitis
MMR vaccines containing one strain of mumps vaccine virus - one that is no longer used in this country - were found to be linked with a mild form of mumps meningitis which appeared about three weeks after immunisation.
Although these cases were rare, this vaccine has not been used since September 1992 and there have been no cases of mumps meningitis linked to the MMR vaccine that is used now.
